What it is, and what it is for
ROCKSOLAR PV Cables with MC4 Connectors, red and black pair
A matched pair of solar extension cables, one red and one black, with an MC4 male on one end and an MC4 female on the other, to carry an array's output from the roof or the ground rack to the charge controller. Choose the gauge for the current and the run, and the length from 10 ft to 500 ft.
Which gauge: 10 AWG is the standard for one panel or one string up to about 30 A over runs to 50 ft. 8 AWG carries the same current over a longer run, or a parallel pair of panels, with less voltage drop. 4 AWG and 1 AWG are for the heavy DC side of a system, between a battery bank and an inverter or a large controller, where the current runs to 100 A and more; those two sizes are stocked in 10 ft, and longer lengths are made to order.
Keep voltage drop under 3 percent: work it out from the run length and current, or ask us with your panel count and the distance. The cables are UV-resistant and rated for outdoor use, and the MC4 ends mate with any standard MC4 panel lead, branch connector or combiner. Wiring is for reference; on a permanent installation a licensed electrician should make the connections.
